Star Trek: First Contact
The first movie based on the Next Generation rather than the original, First Contact featured the tie honoured classic storyline if involving time travel some how.
When a Borg cube begins the invasion of the Federation a fleet of Federation ships engages it while the Enterprise is sent the patrol the neutral zone and spot asteroids as Star Fleet want to keep Picard out of the way.
However when the Borg cube continues despite the attack, the Enterprise breaks off to help them. The Enterprise engages of the Borg cube and after the commander of the fleet is killed, Picard takes command and using his coordinated, the Borg cube is destroys.
However a small escape pod escapes from the Borg cubes and creates a portal to travel back in time and conquer the Earth at the point at which the Earth is about to discover Warp drive so that the Federation is already crushed in the current time.
Picard offers the Enterprise to follow them through. The Enterprise destroys the escape pod but the Borg beam aboard the Enterprise without being noticed and gradually began to take over the Enterprise undetected.
Riker and Le' Forge beam down to the planet to check everything is ok on the Earth. However they soon lose contact when the Borg seize control of the Enterprise and begin assimilating the crew. They also capture commander Data who is tempted by the Borg Queen.
To stop the Borg Picard must destroy the Enterprise and despite his resistance to the idea due to his lust for vengeance on the Borg, eventually gives the order to evacuate the Enterprise. Everyone evacuates except Picard who goes to rescue Data.
When Picard gets down there he offers himself in place of Data however Data has already agreed to rule with the Borg queen. Or so she thinks. At the last moment Data revolts the kills the Borg Queen, despite being tempted by her offer for a second - almost an eternity for an android.
Once the Borg Queen is dead, all the Borg die of confusion saving the Enterprise. Meanwhile, back on Earth the first warp flight is made just like history recorded so the Vulcan's notice Earth and make "first contact." The Enterprise makes a discrete exit back to their normal time.
A great film and one of my favourite Star Wars film, if not the best I have seen. A classic story line which has cool scenes and overall entertainment - Review Machine Movies.
