Roswell series 1
I chanced across the DVD of the first series of Roswell on Play.com in one of their many sales. At the price I thought I couldn’t go wrong – after all I got into Dawson’s Creek by buying the first series on DVD when it was cheap and it was one of the best purchases I ever made. This concludes the story of the beginning of my journey.
Soon I was watching through the episodes – and they are good. Some people have criticised the acting in it and maybe there is a bit of truth in it, but overall I didn’t think it was too bad. The technical features are impressive and most of all the show really has the perfect atmosphere for the type of show it is.
The DVD is split across 6 disks so I’ve never had any problems with the quality. Well a few skips and pauses though I think that is my DVD player. The point I am making here is that some box sets compress everything a lot to get it all on. Manufacturers need to learn we really don’t like it when they do this.
Back to the review though, the DVD also comes with some audio commentaries and extra features. The deleted scenes consist of, well, one scene but it’s a nice touch none the less. I only listened to the first 10 minutes of the first commentary so far with the writer and the director but it seems pretty interesting. That said, director’s commentaries are my type of thing so it interests me as a media student more than it would interest most.
I think my biggest complaint about the DVD would be the fact that the first disk is hidden away on the inside cover under leaflets rather than being stacked with the other disks. Because that is about it, it’s a solid DVD. If you’re a teen drama fan, check this one out - Maze Post.
