Insensitised clicks - waste or wonderful?
A lot of advertising offers pay for click advertising via insensitised clicks. This means the visitors are encouraged to click the link. For instance you may need to click the link to activate an account, get a bonus for an online game or enter a competition.

An example of this is www.luckylotto.com. They offer 1,000 clicks for around $7. Sounds great right? You design a banner, 234 x 60 which is displayed on their site until you have had 1,000 clicks. However the site is based around a lottery. And to enter you have to click 1 of 6 of these banners.

The problem is that nobody is interested in the website; they are simply interested in entering the lotto game. I know from personal experience that if you click a link like this you are unlikely to wait for the site to load, you simply close the link as soon as it has added the bonus and redirected to the website.

Some websites counter this by making people view the site for 20 seconds or more. But the fact is people are not interested in the site. It is like the anti targeting. You are getting clicks from people not interested.

However if you have a clear message, getting people to look at it for a certain length of time could be a good deal for you. However, I took out a campaign for 1,000 clicks for www.mworld.us/casino which got me nowhere - CoolForge.
