Save the Last Dance
Only on reflection did I realise how emo this film actually was. The plot is packed full of teenage angst and the like and pretty subtly concealed amidst a barrage of social commentary. So despite the first glace overview of the film, it managed to keep my attention focused on it throughout.
The film revolves around Sarah who opens the film remembering about how she failed the audition to get into dance school while her mother was in a car crash and died. Blaming herself she gives up dancing and moves to stay with her father. Arriving at her new school she is soon immersed in black culture and takes a liking to Derrick who tries to get her to start dancing again.
The film never really loses momentum and the some of the scene sequences mix in the deeper role of the plot with quite a fresh and light covering that offers a welcome break from the intensity. Perhaps the film was lacking in action but for such an emo flick, the plot moved at quite a decent pace.
Despite its lack of publicity among the wider audience, there is little that I can fault with this film. I began watching it basically expecting quite a chick flick but by the end I was considering it for the all time emo movies list. If you even just suspect you might like this film, then make sure you watch it - Emo Movies.
